2 Ewans, Martin Afghanistan A Short History of Its People and Politics
New York Harper 2002 0060505079 / 9780060505073 Hardcover Very Good+ in Very Good+ dust jacket
Unmarked. Probbly never been read. ; Book Description; Dust Jacket is intact . Spine has no signs of creasing. Pages are clean and not marred by notes or folds. Covers are square and with minor wear. Ships Safe and Fast. Reaching as far back as the seventh century A. D. , when Arab armies imported the new religion of Islam into a predominantly Buddhist country, Martin Ewans shows how centuries of invasions, fierce tribal rivalries, and powerful dynasties led to the creation of an Afghan empire during the eighteenth century. From there he moves on to examine the various milestones on the country's road to the twenty-first century. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Afghanistan was caught up in the "Great Game," the struggle between Britain and Russia for supremacy in Central Asia, until it was finally able to declare independence in 1919. The ruling Afghan dynasty was overthrown by a communist coup in the 1970s, which was answered in turn by a Soviet invasion in 1979. Roughly a decade later, the Soviet Union was forced to withdraw and left Afghanistan with a civil war that was to tear apart the nation's last remnants of religious and ethnic unity. It was into this climate that the Taliban was born. ; B&W Photographs; 9.21 X 6.46 X 1.10 inches; 244 pages

3 Hopkirk, Peter The Great Game The Struggle for Empire in Central Asia
New York Kodansha International 1992 1568360223 / 9781568360225 Paperback Good+
Unmarked. Mild wear on some corners. ; Book Description; Spine has no signs of creasing. Pages are clean and not marred by notes or folds. Covers are square with minor wear. Ships Safe and Fast. The Great Game between Victorian Britain and Tsarist Russia was fought across desolate terrain from the Caucasus to China, over the lonely passes of the Parmirs and Karakorams, in the blazing Kerman and Helmund deserts, and through the caravan towns of the old Silk Road-both powers scrambling to control access to the riches of India and the East. When play first began, the frontiers of Russia and British India lay 2000 miles apart; by the end, this distance had shrunk to twenty miles at some points. Now, in the vacuum left by the disintegration of the Soviet Union, there is once again talk of Russian soldiers "dipping their toes in the Indian Ocean." ; Kodansha Globe; Trade PB; B&W Illustrations; 8.40 X 5.70 X 2.10 inches; 564 pages

This book analyzes the entire industry from quarry all the way down to the actual production and marketing of the marble products in Afghanistan and suggests to the investors innovative approaches that would increase the productivity and competitive position of the Afghan marble. The focus point of the analysis is ? Competitiveness? . It consists of a brief review of the relevant literature, the industry productivity in compare with the concerned neighboring countries; the marble market trend worldwide as well as in-country; and the analysis of the overall marble situation. The study draws conclusion along with recommendations for the relevant players on the ground. ; B&W Illustrations; 8.66 X 5.91 X 0.28 inches; 120 pages
